As you guys know, I'm publishing a House of Night coloring book, with illustrations by my fabulous friend and tattoo artist/illustrator, Aura Dalian (releasing in May). As part of the book I thought it would be nice to include a Q & A with me answering questions submitted by you guys! So, ask away! I have to turn in the coloring book manuscript this week, and I will include as many of your questions as is allowed by the page count I have left. Here is a lovely preview of one of the coloring book pages. I absolutely love Aura's version of our Stevie Rae! Can't wait to read your questions! Hello there!! i'm form argentina and i love your books, one of my questions is, what kind of bird do you imagine when you put redbird? and... are you going to come to argentina?? sorry for my bad english
XOXO
Maca
Will there be any coloring pages of both of the bulls? Also will we see most of Zoey's tattoos?
That's so cool![: Can't wait! What got you started into writing? Do you have any tips for newbies?
I can answer these easily right now!
Macarena - We'd love to visit Argentina! Our publisher chooses where we tour, so standby for tour places and dates to come. I imagine a cardinal when I think of a redbird.
Karla - yes and yes to both of your questions!
Alltimemusic - I can not remember ever not writing. I wrote my first book in first grade. And go to the archives of this blog (accessible through the link on the first page) for my tips for aspiring authors.
Hey PC,
When you started writing Kalona's character he was portrayed as fierce and vengeful. Basically like a jock-type on a power trip. In the later books, in my opinion anyway, he starts to have depth and actually seems redeemable: which I love, it's nice to see a villain turn around a little. My question is, how do you see his persona now that you've gotten to know his character more? Are his hopes for his future unfounded or do they have a shot?
Sorry for the mini rant! Much love from Northern Ireland.
HI!
I love your books!!! Been reading since I was in high school (Goddess Summoning and the Divine Series and now HoN) and have each series in a place of pride on my bookshelf. Top five authors hands down, and I am always looking for new material from you!
As for my question. I remember you saying a few times that you don't have writers block per se, and although many times writing can be hard, and the words don't always flow as freely, you push through because, Duh, it's your job and you have bills (As a 24 yr old, I can no longer deny that this bill thing really exists).
So when starting a new story/series, how do you know the difference between pushing through the "writers block" of a great story because you have to and writing isn't all roses and peonies, and a story that may not be meant for you to write "right now", or even at all?
Hope the question makes sense! :-)
How will the coloring books be available: the same way the books are or would we have to order the coloring books off of Houseofnightseries.com and finally: any news about a possible movie for the series ehhhhh me and all my friends would go to the movies the night it would come out and the day its realist in stores cannot wait!!!!!!
Hi Guys! Again, thanks for the great questions!
Sophie - yes, Kalona's character has evolved, but I can't say more than that because I'll give away plot secrets. What I can say is that your question will be completely answered by KALONA'S FALL and REDEEMED.
Hi Ashley - that's an awesome question! I'm going to include it in the coloring book! Short answer here: After writing 30+ books I've learned that if I'm having to force a scene and just can't get it right, no matter how many times I rewrite and rethink it, then there's something wrong with the plot direction I'm taking and I go back to my outline and consider major revision. p.s. It sucks when that happens.
Rebekah - Right now I know for sure the coloring books will be available through the HoN store and Amazon. Not sure if the bookstores will have them available yet.
Hi Pc! There's questions about the most fascinating villain. This one about Neferet. She is beyond redemption or not? Don't you think she needs to pay for what she has done to so much people. I know she was a vĂctim and Nyx is a kind goddess, but she is a monster now. Do you think she's crazy? I don't know if she is mad or not.
Oh, and in the coloring book there will be a picture of her? Sorry for my english.
Hi Jennifer - yes, Neferet is definitely mad, though I can't tell you what happens to her without spoiling the plot of REDEEMED. And, yes, there is a wonderful illustration of her in the coloring book.
PC,
OMG That's so cool!
As if I weren't excited about purchasing it before.. I'm going to be published! LOL ;-)
Thanks so much for your response. It definitely helps clarify things for me in my own writing. Looking forward to reading the long version answer as well!
-Ash
Oh, and random,
Thanks SO much for including characters of color in your stories (Shaunee, Kramisha, Jacky from Warrior Rising). As a black woman, it's so nice to see black characters who are not defined by their color, and are important to the story as more than just a "diversity" quota to fill. It's inspired me to write my own stories featuring AA characters.
Many authors don't realize how important it is for people of color to see themselves in the stories they love. it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Ashley - you are most welcome! My daughter is a fabulous woman of color, so I hear you and I feel strongly about it as well. Plus, life would be soooo much less awesome if we all looked the same. Ugh! XXXOOO
Hello P.C.,
I have two questions about the HoN series and your writing:
1) are your HoN characters inspired to any real person or are they completely made up by you?
2) when you start writing a series, especially a long one like HoN, do you have everything in your mind from the start to the end or does it develop while you write? Have you ever been surprised by where your stories lead you and what your character do?
Thanks for your answer!
Martina
Favorite book in your house of night series?
How did Zoey's character come to be?
Why did you say you relate to Aphrodite's character the most?
I have been reading this series since I read marked Back when I was in high school. Now being older and married with children I still love the series. I have been trying to keep up with information on whether there will be a movie or a TV show and when it would be released and possible castings for the show or movie.(although personally I would much rather prefer the TV show because with all the depth and details of the books a movie would honestly do minimal justice for the series)
